it's really jobs and the economy. can he win over voters there? he has just started two new ads in spanish. will that sort of argument help win some people over? >> no, because the republican party refuses the to acknowledge that immigration is an economic issue for latino. when you have the majority of latinos are within one generation of the immigration experience, how people acclimate within the new environment, within the new economy is an immigration issue. so even though most latinos may prioritize jobs above immigration without having an immigration process that allows parents or uncles to immigration and work in the economy, it's going to be difficult for latino families to integrate into society. >> it is widely believed that mitt romney cannot win the white house without winning florida. he has florida senator marco rubio out stumping. he is always considered a rising star. his name is always right in there. who do florida hispanics think of marco rubio? >> well, florida hispanics are really diverse. they're kind of like the country, whe

the economy is struggling to get on its feet. why would you have congressman alan west and others say that the books are cooked when you could secertainly just point to the fact of the economy and the recovery is going slowly? why then put in this conspiracy somehow that the books were cooked? if the obama administration cooked the books, certainly the bush administration would have done so in those terrible years when the economy turned, or if someone in the administration has that kind of power. >> yeah. i actually agree 100% with mr. harwood and with tony whose tweet you quoted. you don't have to attack the integrity of the number to attack the substance of the numbers. 114,000 new jobs is nothing to celebrate. it takes 150,000 new jobs every month to absorb new work into the work force. we have 3.4 college graduates this year that need to find jobs and need 150,000 jobs to stosh them and the other people entering the work force. back in 2004 barack obama attacked president bush for a jobs report where 300,000 jobs were create

how is the economy doing? joined by alison kosik, new york stock exchange, to talk a little bit about this. alison, the candidates will be pressing each other on the whole issue of jobs. what does the picture look like for jobs? >> you know, with jobs, it is improving slowly, but the reality is it is just not great. we got another little sliver of information today from adp, it said private sector employment gained by 162,000 jobs in september, but this is just a clue of what to expect on friday from the government jobs report. that's really the biggie, the report that counts. it factors in the private sector jobs, it counts government jobs which actually have been shrinking and the expectation is that the economy added 110,000 jobs in september. and, you know, that would be just be okay, because the reality is we have got a long way to go. in early 2009, the economy lost over 800,000 jobs a month. this by the way is the year that president obama took office. compared to that, 110,000 on friday would be good.

mitt romney had a hard time staying focused on the economy. we come out of the debate, we talk about the improved numbers and tomorrow he's going to give a foreign policy speech. there's another week to go before the next presidential debate. although there's the vice presidential one in the meantime. so i agree with sara, who knows? it's a lot closer i think than anyone thought it would be at this point. >> hey doug, can the president sell this to the 7.8% that are still unemployed that there's an improving economy out there? >> this is the more important story than who won or loss the debate as we know. and the numbers add to the narrative as anne alluded to, inform how people feel about the economy. if you think things getting better. you're much more likely to vote for the president. if you don't, you're leaning toward romney. i think the president has an opportunity, has been doing a good job sort of pointing at the facts, he really has turned around the job picture since he came into office. we were hemorrhaging jobs at the end of the bu
